Subterranean Blog has a little Thursday treat for you today. We've got (WARNING! Hyphen Overload Ahead) Georgia-born, LA-based singer-songwriter Meiko checking in from some place called 'vacation' that we've never been to but it sounds really nice. She mostly talks about losing her Ramen virginity, but it also gives praise to Subterranean (and promos her tour, of course) so we kind of have to post it.
Hi there!
Right now I'm on a little vacation with my sister, 'clothing designer
extraordinaire' Kelly Nishimoto ...We're in Honolulu getting our Aloha
spirit on! I wanted to have some relaxing family time before I go on tour until
mid-March with Joshua Radin and it's been amazing here so far!
We just ate ramen! It was my first time! And holy shizzle it was good.
Ok ok - some of you might know a lot about ramen - and some of you
might only know about the '100 pack for a dollar' kind. But I just
realized how delicious REAL ramen really is.
See - I grew up in Georgia eating the really cheap stuff - I think
it's called Top Ramen? I've had it hot, cold, with and without the
broth, with lunch meat, with a cut-up hot dog, eggs, or anything else
that makes sense when there's nothing in the fridge. When my friends
in Los Angeles talked about how great it was, I was like, "Uh, eating
ramen reminds me of the hard times - no thank you!"
All my years of living in L.A., I've had no part of it. Now, thanks
to all the peer pressure, I've discovered the deliciousness of the
Real Deal Holyfield ramen. I think you have to be in a somewhat big
city to get the good stuff - sorry, but it doesn't look promising for all you
Macon, Georgia folks! Haha!
Anyway - so - back to my story. While I was eating (and slurping
really loudly, because that's supposed to be okay to do at a
traditional place - it means you really like it), I got a call from my manager
Mike 4100 telling me that my video for "Boys With Girlfriends" will be
on MTV2's awesome "Subterranean" show again! I like that show a lot
already because they play lots of great new music - and now they're
playing my video for a second time - I like them extra now! (EDITOR'S NOTE: Back at you sister.)
Point being - I think eating ramen gave me good luck, so I'm gonna
have it again for dinner and see what happens!
Do you like my picture? It's my sister and I, right after I made that ramen my b*tch!!!
